Expansion Joints

Reason for updating Expansion Joints

Expansion Joints:  There are areas where the concrete lining has pushed up due to high temperatures expanding the concrete panels.  Historically this happens in the same locations along the canal.  When the District has to shut down in water short years, this exacerbates the situation.  The District has, over time, developed an expansion joint design which creates a protective gap in the concrete panels which allowing room for expansion of the concrete lining without damage to panels. Over the past two winters we have installed 25 expansion joints.  This winter we will install 12 more. There are currently 150+ to be installed.
